Same again for Danzoya at Ballarat

Feb 10, 2013

Consistent gelding Danzoya relished a jump in distance to post another staying success in the Hygain Country Showcase Rating 68 Handicap (2300m) at Ballarat.

Danzoya bolted in over 2400 metres on heavy ground at Mornington at the sixth run of his previous preparation, giving trainer Greg Eurell the chance to repeat program during the five-year-old’s summer campaign.

The son of Danzero built fitness with five solid runs, including minor placings at his last three runs before Eurell earmarked the 2300-metre event as a prime target for Danzoya.

Eurell booked Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy to partner Danzoya again after the top rider was aboard the horse at his previous outing at Werribee on January 27.

McEvoy let Danzoya amble out of the barriers to take a position at the back of the field while the leaders set a reasonable tempo in the early stages.

McEvoy had some work to do when Danzoya got onto heels when the pace slackened at the 1600 metres but the 26-start veteran relaxed back into his optimum rhythm through the middle stages.

McEvoy urged Danzoya to improve at the 700 metres, sending his mount wide to make his run rounding the home turn.

Danzoya progressed to within three lengths of the leaders early in the straight before sailing home down the centre of the track to score a decisive 1-1/4-length win.

Danzoya, a half-brother to Singapore stakes winner Golden Ace, fetched just$20,000 at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale in 2009. His latest success earned Danzoya’s connections a $25,000 cheque, taking his earnings to more than $85,000.

Congratulations to Danzoya’s owners - Ms G Wilson, Ms L M Pianta, Mr K Cobern, Mr J O'Gorman, Mr D C Wingfield, Mrs M Daniel, Kevnida Racing, Fabulous Five, Ramblers Racing, Sailmaker.
