El Of A Time for mare's lucky owners
Apr 10, 2013
Honest mare El Of A Time produced a gritty display to score her first city win for the Greg Hickman stable in the Canterbury Park Handicap (1250m) at Canterbury.
El Of A Time joined the Warwick Farm stable in the winter of 2012 and paid her way with a string of solid performances, including wins at Hawkesbury and Wyong before her Canterbury success.
The daughter of El Moxie won well when resuming in Benchmark 65company at Wyong on March 14 before stepping up in class and distance for her Canterbury assignment over 1250 metres.
Peter Robl was aboard at her previous win and the Group 1-winning rider stuck with the five-year-old in her $35,000 assignment. El Of A Time’s quick beginning allowed the jockey to position his mount just off the speed with little concern early in the race.
Robl always had the leaders in his sights, waiting until the field rounded the home turn before asking El Of A Time for her finishing burst.
El Of A Time quickened well to hit the front 125 metres out before digging deep under Robl’s urging to hold off a swarm of challengers to score by a long neck.
The win was El Of A Time’s fourth from 14 starts and earned her owners a $19,880 winner’s cheque, which took her earnings to more than $66,000.
El Of A Time has been another terrific money-spinner sourced by the Hancox Bloodstock operation, which paid just $4500 for her at the Inglis Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale in 2009.
Congratulations to El Of A Time’s owners - Hancox Bloodstock Pty Ltd Private Syndicate (Mgr: Ms S F Hancox).
